Last weekend I went on an adventure to a local bookstore where I met this fluffy feline named Saku. . How do you feel about animals in bookstores? As long as they are chill like this one I'm all for it 🖤 Mind you I don't have any allergies so surprise animals don't make it hard for me to breathe. . . Sadie book review – no spoilers – ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 . . CONTENT/ TRIGGER WARNING: child abuse . . . I tore through this book in 2 days and then had such a book hangover. Seriously. It was probably because of the subject matter. As a young mom reading about children and abuse, runaways, etc. is a stressful experience for me. My mind wanders too much and my heart aches too long for me to typically enjoy these kind of books. But this one was different. I think it must have been the way it was written. Jumping from interviews to past to present day. It kept things "light" in a sense without taking away from the importance and severity of the topic. . . We follow the main character Sadie a young adult in her search for someone linked to her past in a terrible way. She's recently lost her sister, her mother is MIA (again) and she's blinded by rage. The novel jumps between her perspective and a journalist taping a series dubbed The Lost Girls which is following her story. The timelines end up running parallel and it's interesting how everything collides. . . Overall I really enjoyed this one. The main character was on a mission, she had obvious but believable character flaws and a terribly painful past. I just wanted to hug her. Though I'm certain she would hate that. . . Though this is a YA book it does not read like one. I'd recommend this to fans of Jodi Picoult and Kristin Hannah. I'm so glad my bookclub chose this novel to read. THROWBACK THURSDAY - FOURTEEN - . I can't believe I've done fourteen of these! Wild!! Speaking of wild, have you ever read anything by Christopher Moore? He always has a quirky tale to tell and A Dirty Job does not disappoint. This one sounds dark, which it is, but it's also extremely funny. A characteristic of Moore's books. . . Synopsis below: . Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy with a normal life, married to a bright and pretty woman who actually loves him for his normalcy. They're even about to have their first child. Yes, Charlie's doing okay—until people start dropping dead around him, and everywhere he goes a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Charlie Asher, it seems, has been recruited for a new position: as Death. . It's a dirty job, but hey! Somebody's got to do it. . . . . LETS PLAY A PREDICTIVE TEXT GAME! I want to talk about one of my favourite genres today! Historical fiction 🖤. . . Thanks to @penguinrandomca I was given this beautiful edition of The Red Daughter by John Burnham Shwartz that was just released last month! It's seriously right up my alley. I love a tale with adventure, mystery, romance and history. Okay that kinda rhymed 😂. . . Here's the synopsis: . In one of the most momentous events of the Cold War, Svetlana Alliluyeva, the only daughter of the Soviet despot Joseph Stalin, abruptly abandoned her life in Moscow in 1967, arriving in New York to throngs of reporters and a nation hungry to hear her story. By her side is Peter Horvath, a young lawyer sent by the CIA to smuggle Svetlana into America. She is a contradictory celebrity: charismatic and headstrong, lonely and haunted, excited and alienated by her adopted country’s radically different society.
